We’re in Helsinki at the World Circular Economy Forum 2019

We are here in Helsinki at the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF), engaging in conversations about pressing questions with other experts from around the world. Great minds have come together from across the globe to talk about how we can scale up and fulfill the promise of the circular economy. That promise is prosperity that works for the wellbeing of the planet and people, by redesigning the economy to eliminate waste, circulate materials in an endless flow, and restore ecoystems.

We have a strong delegation here in Helsinki from our Circular Economy Leadership Coalition, a not-for-profit alliance of corporate and NGO leaders, think tanks and sustainability experts who believe Canada can be a world leader in adopting sustainable, prosperous, zero-waste, low-carbon-emitting solutions for a global Circular Economy. And we are here as part of a committed Canadian delegation that is looking forward to hosting next year’s WCEF in 2020 on Canadian soil.

There are a number of exciting Canadian activities happening here in Helsinki over the coming days.

Canadian Speakers
Canadian speakers will be representing our country to circular economy experts the world over. Today, Leah Canning, Senior Policy Advisor at Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), speaks in the Governance & Circular Economy Roadmaps parallel session, and Vanessa Timmer, Executive Director of One Earth, shares her expertise in the Circularity in our day-to-day lives parallel session. On June 4th in the WCEF Grand Finale, Assistant Deputy Minister Hilary Geller from ECCC will one of the closing speakers.

Canadian Side Events
Two Canadian side events will be happening on June 5th. A WCEF 2019 Canadian Side Event will focus on the Circular Bio-Economy within the Canadian Context. And at 1 pm we are hosting Circular Canada: Exploring the Circular Economy on the Road to WCEF 2020, a workshop on circular economy issues in Canada and idea generation for the World Circular Economy Forum 2020. Hear from dignitaries and experts on how the circular economy relates to topics as diverse as resilient cities, resource-rich economies, plastics pacts, the bio-economy and the role of local government. Alongside Canadian and global experts, give firsthand insights to help inform the key themes, topics and considerations that need to be included in the design of the Canada-hosted World Circular Economy Forum 2020. Tickets are free but we have seen incredible interest and are almost at capacity, so register today!

Canadian Videos
We are thrilled to launch two videos today in line with WCEF. Watch our new Circular Economy 101 video to see what a circular economy could look like for Canada.
