LoopedIn: March 2025

Updates from CELC’s Managing Director, Paul Shorthouse

Two years ago, Circular Economy Leadership Canada (CELC) and the Circular Innovation Council released the Circular Economy Action Plan for Canada —a milestone document that laid the groundwork for accelerating the country’s transition to a circular economy. Developed in collaboration with key stakeholders across industries, governments, and communities, with key input collected at the first Canadian Circular Economy Summit, the plan outlined priority actions to reduce waste, design for circularity, and build a more sustainable and resilient economy.

Since its release, much has happened. Businesses are embedding circularity into their operations, governments are pushing to advance new policy and enabling programs, and collaborative initiatives are emerging across sectors. However, with global shifts in supply chains, evolving policy landscapes, and increasing urgency around climate and resource challenges, it’s critical that we take stock of where we are and determine what still needs to be done.

That’s why we’ll be revisiting the CE Action Plan for Canada at the upcoming Canadian Circular Economy Summit 2025. CCES 2025 will serve as a critical convening and moment to assess our collective progress, highlight new innovations and opportunities, and refine our shared vision for Canada’s circular economy future. What has worked? What barriers still need to be addressed? And how can we drive systemic change at a faster pace? These questions are ones that we’ll be tackling together, April 15-17 in Montreal.

Stay tuned for updates on how you can join us in our mission of advancing a circular economy agenda for Canada and, in the meantime, we encourage you to revisit the Circular Economy Action Plan for Canada as we prepare to chart the next phase of Canada’s circular transition.
