Undertaking deep-dive sector work

CELC helped to accelerate the circular economy transition in Canada with a focus on resource-intensive sectors of strategic importance to Canada, working to advance the business case, tackle barriers, and identify important enablers. Priority sectors and activities included:

  • Construction and real estate value chains including developing a strategic framework for action in Canada (in collaboration with CSA Group, Innovation North, and other partners), as well as launching the Circular Construction Innovation Hub (now part of Circular Construction Canada).
  • Agriculture, circular food systems, and waste-to-resource opportunities including regenerative agriculture practices and supporting resource recovery and upcycling initiatives in collaboration with the Canadian Alliance for Net-Zero Agrifood (CANZA) and other partners.
  • Critical minerals and metals for the net-zero transition including supporting research and convening in collaboration with Smart Prosperity Institute, the Energy Futures Lab, and other partners, focused on energy storage / EV batteries, wind, and solar.
